About Volkswagen
Volkswagen means 'car for people' in German, a family car. The first Volkswagen was called 'Käfer' - the Beetle - and it was a very successful idea. Although the basic assumptions and construction ideas were, let's say copied (ten legal claims against VW for patent infringement) from the Czech Tatra T77. Post-war assembly began in September 1945 for the needs of the British army, and a truly massive, or rather super-mass - in total almost millions around the world, not only in Germany.
Production of the beetle began in Germany in 1949 and ended in Mexico in 2003. So, it’s not only the largest, but also the longest production of one model in the history of the automotive industry. But that's just history, VW is as modern and contemporary as can be and is doing just fine.
Hardly any other brand succeeds in establishing at least one successful model in each vehicle class. From the small car VW up! and the family-friendly Touran compact van to SUVs such as Tiguan, Volkswagen supplies vehicles for all occasions and needs. There are really a lot of these models, and there is not enough space for even a brief description of them here, so it has to be limited to simply listing only them by name, alphabetically: Arteon, Amarok, Beetle (KdF-Wagen), Caddy, California, Golf, Golf Sportsvan, ID.3, ID.4, Multivan, Passat, Polo, T-Cross, T-Roc, Tiguan, Touareg, Touran, Transporter, Up!... Phew...!
